Berenguer and Robert Navarro score two minutes apart as Athletic Club beat Celta Vigo

Early chances and two quick goals

Athletic Club made seven changes to its starting lineup from the Barcelona game. Celta Vigo had an early chance when Williot got an effort away from close range, but Simon saved it. Athletic also had an opening before the goals: Radu denied Sancet.

Berenguer scored in the 20th minute, and Robert Navarro added a second in the 22nd. Athletic had turned an exchange of early chances into a two-goal lead within two minutes. There were more first-half openings after the goals. Radu prevented Iñaki from adding a third for Athletic, and Jutgla’s effort from a corner struck the crossbar. Athletic led 2–0 at halftime.

Celta makes four changes

Celta made four substitutions at halftime with two goals to make up. Athletic still had a chance to extend its lead in the second half when Areso passed to Sancet, who had another opportunity. The score stayed the same, leaving Celta without a goal after its changes at the break.

Athletic completes the win

Nico Williams entered later, and Athletic had further counterattacking chances. Neither team added a goal in the second half. Berenguer and Robert Navarro remained the only scorers, and Athletic completed a 2–0 win over Celta Vigo in regulation.
