Zabiri Scores Twice as Racing Santander Beats Alavés

Alavés takes the early lead

Racing Santander had an early chance when Pablo García tried to score, but Sivera made the save. Alavés went ahead in the 19th minute through Koski. Racing had to find a response after that opening goal, while Alavés had another chance around the half-hour. Rebbach struck a powerful effort, and Agirrezabala saved it.

The first-half score changed again in the 39th minute. Vicente passed to Zabiri, who scored Racing’s equalizer. Koski’s goal had given Alavés the lead, but Zabiri’s finish brought Racing level before the break. The teams went into halftime tied 1–1.

Racing took the lead in the 53rd minute. Canales and Vicente were involved in the move before Salinas supplied a cutback, and Zabiri finished it. His second goal followed his equalizer in the 39th minute and put Racing ahead for the first time in the match. Alavés had led in the first half, but Racing now had the advantage.

Late incidents and the final result

Substitute Almeida was sent off in the 86th minute. In stoppage time, a collision between Aleñá and Salinas led to an additional concussion substitution. Those were the late incidents after Zabiri’s second goal.

Racing Santander finished with a 2–1 win over Alavés on September 12. Zabiri’s goals on either side of halftime turned Koski’s opening goal into a Racing victory.
