Roberto Fernandez scores twice as Espanyol beats Levante 3–0

Roberto Fernandez gives Espanyol an early lead

Roberto Fernandez put Espanyol ahead in the fifth minute. His goal gave Espanyol the lead early in its August 16 La Liga match against Levante. It was the first of two first-half goals for Roberto, who would score again before the teams went into the break.

A second goal before halftime

Javi Hernandez supplied Roberto’s second goal in the 40th minute. Espanyol went into halftime leading 2–0, with both of its goals coming from Roberto. Levante had yet to score when the teams reached the interval.

Halftime changes and second-half play

Levante introduced Bardeli and Etta Eyong at halftime. Early in the second half, Espanyol’s final passes lacked precision. Neither side scored during that early stretch after the break, leaving Roberto’s two first-half goals as the difference until Espanyol added another later in the match.

Pol Lozano and Rafa Bauza entered for Espanyol in the 72nd minute. Bauza went on to assist Tyrhys Dolan’s goal in the 80th, giving Espanyol its third goal of the match. It was Espanyol’s only goal of the second half.

Dolan completes the win

Jofre replaced Dolan after the goal. Espanyol finished with a 3–0 win: Roberto supplied both first-half goals, and Dolan added the third after halftime. Levante did not score. Afterward, Manolo Gonzalez credited his team’s control while saying he wanted calmer attacking play.
